Description A huge working musical instrument on the edge of the crater
Caption Nitzan Rafaeli was commissioned to build eight sound sculptures for Desert Sculpture Park but before they were complete the funding ran out and only four were installed. In addition to Fan Xylophone, he also created Bird's Window and Ship of the Desert. One of them, the 4th sculpture, Rain Cloud, is missing, probably destroyed for the salvage.

"Nitzan Rafaeli, set designer, was born in Israel. He graduated from the stage design department at the Tel Aviv University. He designs sets from theatre and opera productions and designs exhibitions. In the last two years he is production manager at the Israeli Opera. Among his many theatre design credits are The Orchard and A Different Dream at the Beer Sheva Theatre, Simple Story at the Yiddishspiel, Mayumana in New York and many other productions for local theatre companies. For the Israeli Opera he has designed the sets for Carmen (Bizet)."
